Background

The Tour Tracker is the first complex website I created. I developed it in my first Computer Science course in 2018.

I enjoy going to art festivals and live music events. I frequently checked up on my favorite musicians, carefully skimming through their websites to figure out if they were touring near me. Sometimes, town names would go unrecognized, and I’d miss a concert. Later on, to my frustration, I’d discover on that the town only was a short drive away!

So, I decided to create the TourTracker, which maps out an artist’s tour schedule onto a visual map- to help myself figure out if a favorite artist is coming to my town.

Creating this website was enjoyable because I combined my design and problem solving skills. I also had an opportunity to work with geospatial data. I utilized the Bandsintown API, which provides a rich and up to date dataset about artists and their tour schedules.

Tour tracker website. There is a search bar with the input Weezer and 2 diagrams. The first diagram is a map of North America with all Weezer concert locations and the second diagram is a pie char showing the different countries that Weezer is performing in.

Features

  • Search for any musician using the search bar.
  • View that musician’s current tour on an interactive map!
